Porsche Scene Live - Part 2

Hard to believe it's been a week already... Anyway, here are some more pics from the Porsche Scene Live event from last sunday.

This year's PSL promised to be "all new and improved". Instead of the usual track, a new location was decided on: the large compound of the "Wings of Liberation" war museum in Best. Great choice, cool setting, lots of space.
Also, pretty much every Dutch specialist was there, so this time the cars on display wouldn't just be the visitors' cars.

We actually left for the event on saturday, gathering at Vd Gugten with a bunch of friends.
He arranged a nice set of cars that needed to be driven to the event grounds:
- "Papa Smurf" 1986 Ruf look 911 3.8
- Light grey ducktailed 964 3.8
- Black wide body 964 3.8
- Black 924 Carrera GT
- Blue 944 S2 cabriolet (fresh repaint and just finished all new leather interiour)
- Light grey 944 Turbo "RS" project
- Black 1978 SC targa (recent resto)
- Blue 993 4S

In addition, the guys from Cargraphic Germany (Vd Gugten is their dealer for the Netherlands) would be there with their promo-truck and two of their cars, a newly tuned white 991 and a tuned black 997 cabriolet.

After a quick lunch we unloaded the 2 cars from the Cargraphic trailer. Then we moved around all the cars at least a thousand times. In the end KISS proved to best (isn't it always?). Time to head for the hotel bar!

Unsurprisingly, the number of beverages consumed resulted in a very silent sunday morning breakfast.
We arrived at the site around 08.30 and started cleaning and drying the cars and prepping the spot. The broken coffee machine didn't help speed things up, but we got everything done by the time the first visitors started to show up.
And did they show up! Haven't seen or heard any definite numbers, but it surely was more than anyone expected.

All in all, the "new and improved" event turned out to be a success for everyone. Lots of interesting stuff to see, loads of people to talk to, so a great way to spend a weekend.
Looking forward to next years edition!

Rainy arrival on saturday

On the Interwebs

I don't usually post other people's pics here, but I thought these were worth sharing...

They're from the Liebe zu Ihm Porsche blog.

Capital F

that's what I failed with...

Like Clint said: A man's got to know his limitations
Well I guess I got to know mine... I met my nemesis, screwed the pooch

Here's a pic of the sunroof replacement panel, tacked in

Got it to fit nicely, and things were looking bright. So good, so far. Smooth sailing...
Right before it turned into a major cluster f#@k

The bruises on my ego are still too fresh to post pics of the final "result" (plus it doesn't look too bad in the pics, which it really is)

If you haven't guessed it yet, I warped the panel
Thought I was taking it easy on the welding, but apparently I still went too fast... too much heat

One of those "live and learn" moments that I'll add it to my (long) list of failed experiments
But d@mn, this one really made my stomach turn

Once I've sourced another panel, I'll trust it to someone with half a clue of what they're doing
In the mean time, I'll leave it in place. Just as a reminder of what a stoopid a$$ I really am

Refill

Got a refill for my welder's gasbottle last week, so time to do some more welding

Did about 60cm (24 inches) of the passenger side gutter

Also prepped the roof (inside & out) and the sunroof panel, so those are ready to be welded in
I wanted to at least tack it in, but I'll need an extra pair of hands, 'cause the magnets I got aren't up to the task to keep the panel in place (panel goes in from the inside)

And I got me a new '69-'73 nose piece

I really need to clean the garage...
Tools, parts and crap laying around everywhere
Such a slob

Hidden Treasures

Was going through some boxes, looking for something else when I stumbled upon these two...

I "won" the one on the left at the 2004 914Club.com West Coast Classic (see video a couple of posts back).

Got the one on the right from the people at Porsche for building the very first official club website (out of 300-something official clubs world wide) in accordance to the Porsche Corporate Identity guidelines.
Major PITA, cause everything had to be pixel-perfect, but very much worth the effort, if only for getting a chance to work closely with the awesome people from the Porsche Clubbeteuung.

These two a shouldn't be in some dusty box, I'm gonna find them a nice place
Oh, and that thing I was really looking for... Never found it

On a Roll

Tonight I hammered out the drivers side rear fender and I'm VERY pleased with the result.

Already was quite happy with how I did on the passenger side last week (which I smoothed out a little more today), but the drivers side is pretty much flawless. Hardly any visible hammer marks!

Can't explain why, but working with metal shure is a kick...
I felt bad covering that nice clean metal with a coat of zink primer.

Also a pic of the gutter-less roof.
I'll continue on that next. Just have to get a refill for my welders gasbottle.
